A new chapter for Gabe

The Rev. Gabe Lamazares will be leaving St. Philip’s later this fall. His last Sunday will be November 15, 2026, as he and his husband, Terry, embark on a long-planned adventure: moving to Spain.

Gabe joined St. Philip’s nearly six years ago, during a time of significant transition for the parish. Since then, he has been a close collaborative partner with Maryann in the day-to-day life and leadership of St. Philip’s, bringing his years of experience as an Episcopal priest to our shared ministry. He has helped shape our worship and liturgies, offered pastoral care to our congregation, and led our adult formation ministry, coordinating and often teaching Sunday forums and Wednesday night Engage! sessions.

The move to Spain has been many years in the making for Gabe and Terry. At their commitment ceremony in 2002, they promised to be each other’s “comrade in adventure.” This November, that adventure will take them to a town near Barcelona, where they plan to live in co-housing with longtime friends.

“I cannot overstate how grateful I am for my time at St. Philip’s and how much affection and respect I have for this congregation,” Gabe said. “From the depths of COVID to today, I celebrate the life and ministry we have shared in these nearly six years.”

Gabe will remain with us through November 15, and there will be time this fall to celebrate his ministry, give thanks for all he has shared with St. Philip’s, and say our full-hearted farewells.

Looking forward

A search for our next associate rector is underway. The new associate rector will oversee formation across the parish — adults, children, and youth — including the adult formation ministry Gabe has led. If our new priest begins before Gabe leaves, they’ll focus first on learning our children and youth ministries during that overlap, then take on adult formation after Gabe’s departure.
