Independence Day Eucharist

Friday, July 4 • 12 p.m. • Chapel

This Friday we’ll offer a brief noon Eucharist for Independence Day. The Rev. Gabe Lamazares will preach and celebrate as we pray for our nation.

This July 4, we pray for justice in a nation still marked by inequality. We give thanks for freedoms hard-won, and we recommit ourselves to dignity, truth, and community.

Why an Independence Day Eucharist?

At its heart, July 4 commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence – an imperfect and still-unfinished assertion that all people are created equal.

So this July 4, we don’t just celebrate our country – we also recognize the work that remains. On this day, we pray for justice in a nation still marked by inequality. We give thanks for freedoms hard-won, and we recommit ourselves to the values of dignity, truth, and community.

Our country always needs prayers

And did you know Independence Day is one of only two national holidays included in the Episcopal Church’s calendar of feasts? The early founders of the Episcopal Church wove this observance into our liturgical life – perhaps because they knew our nation would always need our prayers: prayers of repentance, of hope, and of healing.

Join us as we gather to mark this pivotal moment in our nation’s history.
