Join St. Philip’s Racial Justice and Reconciliation committee for an unforgettable spring pilgrimage to Stagville. We’ll explore the “Roots of Durham” – how power, profit and freed people have shaped our city. After the tour, you can choose to continue the discussion over a bring-your-own lunch.

Historic Stagville includes remnants of the one of the largest plantations in North Carolina. At Stagville, the Bennehan-Cameron family owned approximately 30,000 acres of land and claimed ownership over about 900 enslaved people. Stagville is dedicated to teaching about the lives and work of enslaved people on the plantation.

The tour is free (donations welcome), and it’s open to middle schoolers and older. Carpooling available. Space is limited, so make sure to sign up by May 14!
