Adult Formation
Christian education opportunities for adult members and guests are offered throughout the academic year. On Sunday mornings, our Adult Forum (10 – 10:45 AM, Parish Hall) provides opportunities to hear presentations and participate in programs on a range of topics. Our offerings include academic lectures on scripture, discussions of spiritual practices led by visiting clergy and authors, presentations on issues of faith and justice, and overviews of congregational ministries. In addition, a small group meets weekly during that time to discuss Sunday readings (Library). Other opportunities take place throughout the week with topics changing throughout the year, examples include confirmation classes for adults, classes on Environmental Justice and Caring for God’s Creation, and a clergy-led bible study. There’s a lot going on and all are welcome. For more information, visit the Adult Formation page.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is St. Philip’s Sunday morning formation program for children aged 3 to 12. The CGS program is staffed by trained volunteers, called Catechists, and assistants. Participating children are divided into three age groups and meet with their Catechists in a special room called an atrium. In CGS, children are encouraged to nurture their relationship with God through worship and scripture. With over 70 children active in CGS, it takes a large volunteer corps to make this program a possibility. CGS meets each Sunday during the academic year from 9:50 to 10:50 AM. If you are interested in working with CGS or have any questions about children’s ministry, please contact Emily Sparks.
Journey to Adulthood
The youth formation program at St. Philip’s in an integral and vital ministry for our teens. This program was created at St. Philip’s and is now used throughout the Episcopal Church as well as in other denominations.Â
Journey to Adulthood (J2A) is a complete youth ministry program of spiritual formation for Middle and High Schoolers. It uses Bible study, prayer, rites of passage, outreach ministries and both serious and playful activities to underscore its two guiding principles: 1. Manhood and womanhood are free gifts from God. 2. Adulthood must be earned.
Each stage of Journey to Adulthood requires 3 or 4 leaders, but that is not the only way to be involved. If you are interested in working with leaders to coordinate activities or service opportunities, or have any questions about J2A, please contact youth minister Hannah Flack.
