The vestry serves as the church’s legal body regarding to all matters pertaining to the church’s corporate property. The vestry helps define and articulate the mission of the congregation; supports the church’s mission by word and deed; selects the rector; ensures effective organization and planning; and manages resources and finances.
Vestry members are elected from the congregation at the annual parish meeting. The presiding officer of the vestry is the rector. There are usually two wardens. The senior warden leads the parish between rectors and is a support person for the rector. The junior warden is responsible for church property and buildings. A treasurer and a secretary are also appointed from the vestry. Other members serve as liaisons to significant parish committees.
If you have any questions or would like to get in touch with the vestry, please contact Senior Warden Rebecca Hix.
Serve on vestry
In February 2025, we’ll elect four new vestry members for a three-year term. Serving on the vestry is a great way to share your gifts, lead our church, and deepen your connection to St. Philip’s. No special expertise is required—just be a confirmed member, at least 16, who hasn’t served in the last two years, and ready to help shape St. Philip’s future.
