The Campus Study is an intentional process to discern our campus spaces’ best uses as our needs and those around us are changing.

The purpose of the campus study:

  • Continue St. Philip’s mission to be a church for all people through worship, love, and action – with a focus on using our real estate assets for love and action in our Durham community
  • Provide for St. Philip’s physical needs
  • Reinvest in our 35+ year partnership with Urban Ministries of Durham

Recently the vestry signed a memorandum of understanding supporting UMD’s discernment for a new multi-service homeless center. Now we’re gathering more info about what the project could look like and listening to parishioners’ opinions, concerns, and visions. Learn more

Fall 2023 Vestry Listening Sessions – Sundays at 10 a.m. in the library

Currently we’re gathering more information about what UMD’s proposed multi-service homeless center could look like. And we’re listening to parishioners’ opinions, concerns, and visions. Come to a vestry listening sessions most Sundays at 10 a.m. to share your thoughts and learn more. We’re eager to hear from you!

August 2023 Memorandum of Understanding

The vestry signed a memorandum of understanding with UMD and the other strategic partners. It states publicly that we commit to supporting UMD’s discernment for a new multi-service homeless center. While not binding on us, signing this memorandum of understanding (or MOU) shows we’re publicly committed to walking with UMD. Signing the MOU gives UMD a better chance of securing public funding for a feasibility study.

May 21, 2023, Sunday Forum

The Campus Study Committee provided an update and answered questions at the May 21, 2023, Sunday Forum.

In fall 2022, we held forums gathering congregational feedback on the draft master plan. That plan proposes developing a new facility for homeless services on our block. St. Philip’s and our partners have been envisioning how that facility could radically improve homeless care and create a smoother path to stable housing opportunities.
