We are pleased to announce that Mary Karcher has accepted the position of St. Philip’s Director of Communications. She begins April 1, 2020.

Mary Karcher is a professional Church communicator with a strong interest in Digital Evangelism and helping churches learn to effectively use digital tools to create a strong online presence for their community.

Mary is a native Californian raised in Bakersfield, and the Diocese of San Joaquin. She attended the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History with a certificate in Multimedia Journalism from the award-winning Missouri School of Journalism. Mary recently obtained a Master of Arts degree from the University of Houston in Arts Leadership with significant coursework in marketing, communications, and organizational planning. During her time at UH, she completed a practicum internship in the Marketing Department of the Museum of Fine Arts,   Houston. She had the opportunity to develop the marketing plan for the blockbuster exhibition, Vincent Van Gogh: His Life in Art.

Mary spent a year in Austin, Texas in the Episcopal Service Corps. She performed marketing duties at her ESC placement, Sustainable Food Center. From there she obtained a position in the Office of the Bishop with the Episcopal Diocese of Texas working for the Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle. At the Diocese, she managed Bishop Doyle’s social media presence as well as other online platforms. Some additional work included editing books and papers for publication, press releases, and photography and video. She was honored to lead two pilgrimages to England for diocesan youth.

She is leaving a position as the Marketing Specialist at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, an arts organization in Houston. She looks forward to relocating to Durham, working and connecting with the people of St. Philip’s, and choosing a new basketball team to cheer for.
