Adult Forum: Our largest adult Christian education offering is our Sunday Adult Forum. We meet from 10:00 to 10:45 am in the Parish Hall to learn about a range of topics.
- November 10th: Storytelling and Evangelism, led by the Rt. Rev. Porter Taylor, retired Bishop of Western North Carolina.
- November 17th: St. Philip’s History Project, led by Sue Guptill and the Racial Justice and Reconciliation Ministry. Join us to learn about a new project underway to interview members and record stories about race, justice, and life at St. Philip’s over the past decades.
- November 24th: The “Christ and the Children” Window, led by Tim Riggs, the clergy and others. St. Philip’s is blessed with a number of historic and beautiful works of stained glass. However, as times change, not all of the images depicted in our windows continue to carry the same messages today as they did when they were installed, and one window in particular depicts people of different races in ways that are no longer comfortable. Join us to learn more about the history, background, and ways to respond to the “Christ and the Children” window.
- December 1st: Advent Intergenerational Event
Small Group Education Opportunities: Our Sunday small groups provide a chance to make connections, build community, and share about matters of faith. These groups meet from 10:00-10:45 am in the Library.
- Reading Between the Lines: This small group offering meets in the Library on the first and third Sundays of the month to discuss the Sunday’s bible readings. The group that meets is friendly and welcoming and would love to have you join.
- News and Faith: this new program provides a faithful space for people to discuss current events in light of the Gospel. Conversations are non-partisan and the intention is to provide an opportunity for people to address and respond to difficult issues with theological reflection, bible study, and prayer. Sessions are facilitated by the clergy. The group meets on the fourth Sunday of each month.
Tuesday Rector’s Bible Study: We will meet to discuss the Book of the Prophet Jonah. This group meets at 11:00 am in the Library.
- November 12th Chapter 1
- November 19th Chapter 2
- December 3rd Chapter 3
- December 10th Chapter 4
- December 17th Jesus and the Sign of Jonah
Wednesday Evening Adult Education: On November 13th, we will offer the last session of the Awakening the Dreamer course developed by the Pachamama Alliance, facilitated by the Environmental Stewardship Committee. The course uses videos and discussion to explore the relationships among environmental concerns, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment. The group meets in the Library from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. All are welcome to participate.
