Engage! The Idea of Sacrifice in Early Christian Tradition โ Wednesdays: July 8, 15, 22 & 29 โข 6:30 PM โ What do Christians mean when we speak of sacrifice? Why has the idea of sacrifice played such a central role in Christian belief and worship? Join parishioner James Rives, professor of classics at UNC-Chapel Hill, for a four-week exploration of sacrifice in the ancient world and early Christianity. Together, we’ll examine sacrificial practices in Graeco-Roman and Jewish traditions, the role of sacrifice in the persecution of Christians, and how early Christians transformed the idea of sacrifice in their theology and worship.
