A four-part Sunday Adult Forum series
Starting Sunday, January 21, 2024 • 10 a.m. • Parish Hall
Where do you call home our community?
Wherever it is, it’s likely you’ve noticed your surrounding housing prices – or your own housing expenses – rising in recent years. The growing lack of affordable housing is top of mind for many, especially people of color. Why is that?
As a community of worship, love, and action, we strive to tackle such tough issues head-on. So we’re kicking of a four-part Adult Forum series about housing and race in Durham. Join Emily Yeatts and Page McCullough in examining when, where, and how people have sought shelter and settled in Durham since the Civil War.
For our first session, Vera Cecelski, site manager of Stagville Historic Site, will help us understand the barriers and options to housing that formerly enslaved people faced in the Durham area after the Civil War.
Jan 21 – Housing during post-Civil War Reconstruction
Jan 28 – Housing under Jim Crow
Feb 4 – Mid-20th century housing policies
Date TBD – Guest speaker Russ Pierce, director of Housing for New hope
