Annual Pauli Murray Service
June 22, 7 PM at St. Titus’, Durham, and via live stream
The annual service to commemorate the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray will be held in person and online this year. Bishop Anne Hodges-Copple will officiate, and the Rev. Winnie Varghese, rector of St. Luke’s, Atlanta, will preach.
Anna Pauline “Pauli” Murray was an American civil rights activist who became a lawyer, gender equality advocate, Episcopal priest, and author. Drawn to the ministry, in 1977 Murray became the first Black woman to be ordained as an Episcopal priest.
Registration is required for in-person attendance. The service will be live-streamed from the church through St. Titus’ Facebook page and the diocesan YouTube channel.
Pauli Murray Pilgrimage: Walk + Reflect
June 25, 8 – 11 AM, beginning at the Pauli Murray Center in Durham
Take a spiritual journey through Durham locations of importance to the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray. Along this curated walk, participants will receive selected prayers, meditations, and conversation starters to encourage reflection and learning about the history of Durham and its importance in Murray’s legacy.
During this 4.5-mile pilgrimage, participants will engage in a self-guided exploration that begins and ends at the Pauli Murray Center, located at 906 Carroll Street. Meet at the center at 8, 9, or 10 AM for a brief introduction to the pilgrimage; however, you can begin the journey anytime between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
