For almost a decade, St. Philip’s Global Missions Committee has helped to support Maison de Naissance, a birthing center in southern Haiti that provides critical services to an underserved area. This “house of birth” is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this fall, thanks to the dedication of an all-Haitian staff, including nurse midwives. In their two decades of operation, nearly 9,000 babies have been safely delivered, and 400,000 patients have visited for prenatal and postpartum care, family planning, well-baby check-ups, and HIV services. They are quite the success story!
Challenges do continue. Recently William O’Neill, the UN expert on human rights for Haiti, reported the southern peninsula where Maison de Naissance is located has been cut off from the rest of the country. The area is seeing soaring inflation, lack of key supplies, and flows of displaced people. The situation makes Maison de Naissance’s services even more needed in the area.
St. Philip’s parishioners support Maison de Naissance’s services through allocations from our operating budget and whenever you buy St. Philip’s Haitian coffee and chocolate. Thank you for your continued support!
