As our Engage! offering this week, we’re excited to offer Advent Lessons and Carols in the church. Join us for this beautiful service combining hymns and choir anthems. The choir will sing works by Malcom Archer, Craig Phillips, John Bell, and Benjamin Britten. The junior choir and handbell choir will also participate.

The tradition of Advent Lessons and Carols dates to the 1930s and evolved from an older tradition of Christmas Lessons and Carols, first sung at Truro Cathedral on Christmas Eve of 1880 – the same year St. Philip’s was organized.

The Advent Lessons and Carols service includes nine lessons and nine carols related to the Advent story (without sermon or communion), with the carols following each lesson illustrating what was read.

We hope this service will help you prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas, and that once you step inside the doors of St. Philip’s, you can leave behind all the distractions from the true meaning of Advent.

The nursery will be available from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. for children 5 and under.
