August 25th : Why Church? led by the Rev. Jonah Kendall. This first Adult Forum of 2019/20 will focus on the role and meaning of participation in Christian community.
September 1st : A Christian Response to Gun Violence . In the wake of recent mass shootings and widespread gun violence, Christians throughout our country are seeking faithful ways forward. To explore this topic here at St. Philip’s, we will use a curriculum offered by ChurchNext, featuring short videos by Bishop Eugene Sutton (Diocese of Maryland) and Bishop Ian Douglas (Connecticut).
September 8th : Suppressing Mary Magdalene: A Study of John 11 , led by Duke doctoral student Elizabeth Schraeder. This research received national attention this summer as she has shown that significant efforts were made by Christian editors in the first few centuries to erase or diminish the role of Mary Magdalene in Christian scripture and tradition.
September 15th : Welcoming or Affirming: What’s the Difference? led by Kirk Royal and members of the LGBTQ+ community. As we prepare to celebrate NCPride, please join us for this informative and engaging conversation about ways to support our LGBTQ+ siblings.
September 22nd : Stewardship as Ministry led by Wes Brown, stewardship consultant. Over the past few months, members of the St. Philip’s vestry and other lay leaders in our congregation have been working with Wes to explore the transformative quality of stewardship and ministry.
September 29th : Stewardship Brunch – no Adult formation.
